Netflix is in the early stages of developing a sequel to "A Different World," focusing on the life of Dwayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley's (Jasmine Guy) daughter. This half-hour comedy is being brought to life by writer and executive producer Felicia Pride ("Bel-Air," "Grey's Anatomy"), along with executive producers Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood. Allen, Werner, Prince-Bythewood, and Bythewood were part of the original NBC series.
The upcoming sequel will follow the couple's youngest daughter as she embarks on her own journey at Hillman College. While casting has not officially began, initial discussions with original cast members regarding interest and availability have taken place. Despite previous attempts at continuing the series over the years, development was halted due to various reasons, including legal concerns associated with Bill Cosby, the creator of "A Different World."
