Angie Stone was a soul singer, songwriter, and actress whose powerful voice and emotive performances captivated audiences. Born Angela Laverne Brown on December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone's musical journey began at a young age. Her early experiences singing in a church choir would pave the way for her future career.

Angie’s musical journey started in the late 1970s with the hip-hop trio The Sequence, one of the first female rap groups, known for their hit single “Funk You Up.” Her time with The Sequence laid the foundation for her future in music. In the 1990s, Angie Stone remerged as a force in the neo-soul movement. Her debut solo album, Black Diamond, released in 1999, was a commercial success. The album featured her hit single “No More Rain (In This Cloud).”

Throughout her career, Stone released several albums, including Mahogany Soul (2001) and Stone Love (2004), both of which solidified her status as a leading figure in the neo-soul genre. Her contributions to music earned her multiple Grammy nominations and numerous awards. In addition to her musical accomplishments, Angie Stone ventured into acting, appearing in many films and television shows, further showcasing her versatility as an artist. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to connect with audiences through multiple mediums made her a beloved figure in the entertainment world.

On March 1, 2025 Angie Stone was involved in a fatal car crash near Montgomery, Alabama. Angie and her band were in route to Atlanta. At 63 years old, Angie was the only fatality in this tragedy. Her soulful voice and profound artistry, left an indelible mark on the music industry and the hearts of her fans around the globe.
